Nursery had a brilliant time celebrating World Book Day. The children really enjoyed dressing up and admiring all the lovely costumes.
We used our interactive board to listen to a special webinar by Julia Donaldson (who wrote the Gruffalo, Stick Man and The Snail and the Whale) and Axel Scheffler (who drew all the pictures). We learnt about authors and illustrators. The children listened very well to Axel Scheffler reading The Smeds and the Smoos and Julia Donaldson reading Tiddler. When Tiddler was over Axel Scheffler gave a demonstration on how to draw Tiddler and his friend Little John Dory, he even showed us how to draw seaweed. The children all thought he was brilliant at drawing! Then it was our turn, all the children used a special pen just like Axel Scheffler to draw their own Tiddler pictures. They then used their crayons to colour their illustrations in. The were very excited that they had pencil cases just like Axel Scheffler. I think you will agree their pictures are fantastic and we could have our very own Orritor illustrators in years to come.
We finished the day with the story How to Hide a Lion in School, the book Miss Thompson had based her lion costume around.
We had a lovely day. Thank you to all the parents for the effort they put in to make our day so enjoyable.
