Primary 5 visit Ballinderry Rivers Trust Fish Hatchery
31st Mar 2025
Primary 5 visited the hatchery with Mrs McClung,Mrs Allen, Miss Dallas, and two of our parents Mrs Turkington and Mrs Lennox on Friday 28th March. They had previously been given the responsibility for growing Dollaghan trout eggs into alevin then fry in the classroom for a number of weeks before releasing them back into the Ballinderry river. Every day they had to check that the tank was the right temperature and make sure that there was enough oxygen getting into the tank as well as removing eggs that were not developing.
On Friday we all had an excellent ,educational and informative session which focused on the conservation of the Ballinderry river , its freshwater species especially the invertebrates, Dollaghan trout and freshwater mussel.A big shout out to Jillian, Frank and Peter who made our day so much fun and extremely interesting.
