Primary 5 were set a challenge to build a model of a river. They had to search and choose materials from the school grounds that would be suitable to use. They had to use key river vocabulary as they created their model … source, mouth, river course, channel, valley, meander, river bed, river bank. They had to decide what shape the river takes from beginning to end and make lots of predictions and discussion about where the best place would be to place houses, people and livestock. After the models were created they had to test them out to see how a light rainfall and then a heavy storm would impact the course of their river model.
